Fresh, different, exciting and accessible. This is
what we want to be at Nakano Pop Records.
Founded only recently, in February 2009, we are
still a small company, but with a big dream.
And that is to make the wider world know and
appreciate what small communities of
discerning listeners have known for years:
Japan continues to produce some of the finest
pop music and rock-and-roll ever recorded!!
What you see at left are the CD covers for
albums Nakano Pop Records will be releasing
in the coming weeks and months. These are
NOT reissues of older, obscure material. These
are FRESH recordings by as yet unknown Tokyo
bands who we think will infuse the global world
of pop music with a freshness not seen in since
the early '80s.
Our flagship act, for example, is The Nakano
Station, a group of classically-trained music
students from Waseda University who decided
to pursue something closer to Australian
aboriginal folk music than arias. With electric
guitars!
Another Nakano band, The Schnoots, will come
at you the way The Sex Pistols might have if
they'd played high-energy SKA like The
Specials or The Beat.
Finally, The Shinjukes, The We Are Happys and
Soy Nut Babies are primed to infuse an
uncustomary level of Japanese raucousness
into the progressive rock arena.
